Autumn Newsletter 2021
It has been a fascinating time….
…and a challenging year for so many, not least here at Orchard Osteopaths. I am a great believer that where there is change there are opportunities for personal growth. Working through the first lockdown was intense. With the reception staff furloughed, it was a scary time deciding who we could and could not allow in for treatments – we were only able to treat those with the greatest needs (where our free advice about exercises and self-care were not working), and even then, we saw individuals for the shortest time possible with speedy, intense treatments with much taping!
Since those crazy days we have settled with the enhanced sanitation, ventilation and PPE becoming the norm. Reception is now manned behind Perspex where I have such a welcoming and knowledgeable team. Many new patients have been unable to see their GP’s face-to-face have more complex needs than we have seen before, and an unusually high number of boys have presented with foot, knee, hip and back pain in 2021 – Initiated by the stop/start nature of the lockdowns it seems that boys were spending much time on the computers, then back to much exercising at school in a cyclical manner so that the structures involved were unable to adapt as normal as they continued to grow. So, it really has been a fascinating time and keeps us all on our toes!
Mental Health has been a big issue, and I am very pleased that alongside the time we osteopaths take with each patient, we are also able to offer both hypnotherapy and counselling. Both Debbie and Trudi offer a free consultation so please do come and see them if you are struggling.
I am enjoying offering appointments in my new OO clinic in Crewkerne – It is my hometown having grown up in Clapton. I returned to this area 30 years ago this year after completing my training! I have already treated several patients who I went to school with in Crewkerne.
Warmest Wishes – Rachel Phillimore (Principal & Proprietor)
