Yoga’ has many meanings but it is generally thought to have derived from the word root ‘yuj’ meaning to unite, yoke or join together. This union relates to the balance of mind and body. Yoga is the practice of physical postures (Asanas), breathing techniques (Pranayama) and relaxation. It is associated with a healthy lifestyle and a positive approach to life. Yoga is not about bending the body into the shape of a pretzel! Its about working with what with have, accepting what we have, taking the time out to look inwards to bring our awareness to a single focus therefore allowing us peace and space both physically and mentally.
Great reasons to start practicing yoga, whatever your age, gender, body size, strong weak supple or inflexible!
- Yoga makes you feel better it’s as that simple! It is why some many people get hooked, if approached with an open mind you will feel different more open, present, happier and better.
- Yoga makes the body strong supple and healthy you will need to give it time but most people start feeling the benefits during their first class. Flexibility will increase, fitness levels increase, muscles grow stronger and become more supple
- Yoga helps quieten the mind and makes you feel calm its like giving the mind a spring clean allowing the mind to have a quieter space
